Hi,

I need help fixing a trailing stop problem.  I have created a Long Trailing Stop Loss to be 'the lowest low in the last 5 bars'.  When a bar hits this stop level I cannot get the software to exit at the actual price that stop level was at......it can give me the next bar open / close, or the current bar open/close.......but this is not the intention of the trailing stop.  Can anyone help??

Thank you.

Dear mypipbull,

If you are using the simulation mode then the software does not use any IntraBar signals, therefore the simulation is running on open or close price data. It is done specially to show the worst of possible options in the DTE mode. If your broker supports order placement at the Last price then, in the DTE mode, once the described rule is activated the Trailing Stop will be placed.

Thanks for the reply however, I have used Metastock (previously) and if I have a trailing stop set to a low of a previous bar it 'knows' this and if the proceeding bars low moves past that point it exits and the exit price is the previous low.  I have tested extensively a system and if it gets out on the open of the bar that the trailing stop should exit I get amazing results....no supprise.....when i get out on the open of the next bar the results are ordinary......i was hoping that by generating the theoretical 'actual' price i might get results somewhere in the middle...therefore believeable and ideal.

So are you telling me in DTE mode it could be done.....if so thats great but its no help when backtesting.......
Appreciate any workarounds if it is possible......i.e. could i somehow code: if low lower than lowest low for last 5 bars then return the value of the low??.......is that even possible?? ;@)

Thanks for you help it is much appreciated.

I'm also still struggling with this problem.

I want to set up a trailing stop where for example the stop is the lowest and I want that the backtest exits on the exact price but I still can't get it right.

Thx

Not sure if you found what you were looking for, but I wrote a trailing stop indicator using VB and implemented as an IDL -
